17 Things I learned in Iceland.

Sometime in December of last year, right before my heart was about to really be broken for the first time in my life and I was already feeling the decline, a post popped up in my facebook timeline offering an apartment swap in Reykjavík for the whole of May 2017. I literally forced the guy: Iceland! YES! Me! – because I knew this would be a chance to finally get out of this mess called my life (it’s really not that bad now, but it felt very different a couple of months ago…). Be inspired, take pictures, travel, think and …

A tiny trip to Sicily.

In the early summer days of 2016, H. and I went on a really short trip to Sicily. We booked a tiny car and a wonderfully charming Airbnb surrounded by lemon trees in the middle of the old city of Modica. We had fantastic food and found peace of mind sleeping blessed under the Madonna. Played Yahtzee between the lemon trees and jointly analyzed our very different gambling types over local red wine. We discovered the treasures and secrets of the southeastern tip of the island, having, mostly, the best of times. My top three: 1. The old city of …

New York Prints for Sale.

As some of you may know, I spent a week in New York from September 3 – 11. I am still battling the jet lag away (and a really bad cold), but New York was just lovely! It had been soooo long and I definitely got back in the vibe. I walked for hours every day and had a blast at my very first American wedding (more on this soon). Besides a long needed return to my favourite city (besides Berlin!), it was also my first real solo travel since becoming a mama. Being away from my little family did …

A German Story.

For a while I have wanted to make a trip through my home country and explore the obvious, the unspectacular, and to search for the common and familiar in my surroundings. After traveling so much and so far in the past few years I felt ready for a bit of habitat. We’ve been home with our parents and grandparents for almost two weeks and went on a few trips in the area, walked through little villages, countless forests and woods and digged into family history and heritage a bit. This has been a beautiful and thoughtful journey so far and …

Gesucht: Tolle Orte in Deutschland.

Istanbul, Turkey.

Istanbul had been on my top travel list for years, but somehow I never made it there. On my way to Macedonia right after finding out I was >>pregnant<< almost two years ago, I actually had a >>10 hour stopover<< there, but hey, I definitely had other things in mind that day, and couldn’t enjoy the city that much, plus it was only a few hours in a rush.   This year we took Turkish Airlines to and from >>Oman<< and both times had a stopover in Istanbul (plus a really annoying extra stop in Bahrain we didn’t know about…). …

Muscat, Oman.

When I first landed in >>Oman<< in the middle of the night two years ago, I remember not being able to sleep because the view from my bedroom window was just too exciting. I had never been to the middle east and it was really too bewitching to just sleep.   Muscat is a mix of desert, beautiful, rocky mountains, traditional houses and a futurama-like network of modern superhighways with big, shiny white trucks driving on them. Contrasting scenes of wealthy, organized and clean Omani life and the more rough and lively class of migrant workers from Asia. All observed …

An inner conflict.

I love my life in Berlin, as a photographer, as a friend to such amazing people and as a mom of mini-me. Though, in my heart, I am a traveler. 2011 was my year as a traveling photographer, having the amazing opportunities to visit Norway, Nepal, Paris ( 1 2 3 4 5 ), Vienna ( 1 2 3 ), Barcelona ( 1 2 ) and the Costa Brava, Morocco, Oman and Nepal again. One day after I found out I was pregnant in February 2012, I took a flight to Macedonia via Istanbul, a few weeks later I spent …

Barcelona.

Two days before and two days after the wedding, we spent in Barcelona, sporting some lovely airbnb flats and exploring the city. Definitely a lovely place on earth, I must admit, Barcelona is just not for me, even though I’ve been there soooo many times that it might make a different impression. I love the tiny streets, the balconies, the atmosphere, the food, and, oh yes, the shopping and the beaches, but there’s something about it that ‘s just not for me.   Anyways, we had beautiful cook-outs with our friends also visiting for the wedding, sat by the beach …

Traveling pregnant.

When I booked my trip to Spain a few weeks ago, numerous people called me “brave” and articulated their concerns of me traveling pregnant at 31+ weeks. I’m so glad I didn’t listen to any of them and just did what mini-me and my heart had told me: Get out and go!   Indeed I have not felt any better during my entire pregnancy than now. Warm sand has calmed my aches, mediterranean waves have rocked my baby, some of my favourite people have snuggled my belly and mini-me now responds to outside stimuli in such an impressive way. I …
