Šuto Orizari was founded in the northern outskirts of Skopje, Macedonia after a devastating earth quake hit the city in 1963. “Shutka”, how the locals call it, is estimated to be the largest permanent Roma settlement in the world, with an official population of 22.000 and an unknown number of residents without papers. In 2015, I started this portrait and documentary project to shed light on the many different faces and stories of Shutka.
My project was kindly supported by Canon Germany.
