Scholarship

I am willing to give away one free spot (“scholarship”) for a talented someone who is unable to pay the tuition. I may be able to provide you with a decent camera or laptop for the workshop if you don’t have one. Plus, I give everyone 5% off tuition who registers before September 1, 2014.

But beware!

When considering a workshop with me, please beware of my very personal style of photography. I believe photography is very emotional and less technical, more of a tummy instead of a head-thing. If you have a passion but don’t own a fancy camera, that’s totally fine. If you own expensive equipment but have no passion whatsoever, I’d prefer not to teach you, sorry! I give hands on and easy rules how to shoot and use a camera for your needs; these workshops, however, will not substitute a full photography school program or cover all technical or physical aspects of photography. They are result-oriented. Also, I am a very honest person and I will give honest opinions on your work, my critique will always be constructive though. I can teach in German, or English, or both.

Your Teacher

I am Carolin Weinkopf, 30 and have been successfully working as a photographer for almost five years after finishing a degree in journalism and political sciences. Self-taught, I was one of the youngest master students of Eastern-German pre-eminent photographer Arno Fischer until his death in 2011. I have travelled many countries and cities for documentary work and commissioned assignments and spent three months in New York City as an assistant to successful fashion and commercial photographer Sarah Silver. While assisting shoots for Latin American Vogue or Harper’s Bazar mainly gave me an idea what I did not want to do, I gained valuable editing and retouching skills there, as well as a pretty great hint of how business works. After having a baby in 2012, I am finding pleasure in more silent subjects and portraiture at this time, but I am still trying to travel as much as possible. I have successfully taught photography workshops in Berlin, Kathmandu and at the University of Oxford.
