Scholarship
I am willing to give a full or half scholarship for a talented someone who is unable to pay the tuition. I may be able to provide you with a decent camera for the workshop if you don’t have one. Plus, I give everyone 5% off tuition who registers before October 8, 2018.
But beware!
When considering a workshop with me, please beware of my very personal style of photography. I believe that photography is more emotional and less technical, more of a tummy- instead of a head-thing. If you have a passion but don’t own a fancy camera, that’s totally fine. If you own expensive equipment but have no passion whatsoever, I’d prefer not to teach you, sorry!
I give hands-on and easy rules how to shoot and use a camera for your needs; these workshops, however, will not substitute a full photography school program or cover all technical or physical aspects of photography. They are result-oriented. Also, I am a very honest person and I will give honest opinions on your work, my critique will always be constructive though.
I can teach in German, or English, or both. My workshops include a small PDF handbook summarizing what’s been taught for your personal use. I will be available for questions for all my students even after the workshop has ended.
Your Teacher
I am Carolin Weinkopf, 34 and have been successfully working as a photographer for almost a decade after finishing a degree in journalism and political sciences.
Mostly self-taught and definitely not classically trained, I was one of the youngest master students of Eastern-German pre-eminent photographer Arno Fischer for three semesters at Ostkreuzschule Berlin until his death in 2011. I have travelled worldwide for documentary work and commissioned assignments and spent three months in New York City as an assistant to successful fashion and commercial photographer Sarah Silver in 2009. While assisting shoots for Latin American Vogue or Harper’s Bazaar mainly gave me an idea what I did not want to do for a living, I gained valuable editing and retouching skills there, as well as a pretty great hint of how business works.
After having a baby in 2012, I have been finding pleasure in more silent subjects and portraiture for some time, but have been travelling excessively all along (think of a month in Iceland to repair a broken heart or documenting the Roma community in Skopje). I have successfully taught a number of photography workshops in Berlin, Kathmandu and at the University of Oxford. My work has been exhibited in Germany as well as Belgium, Macedonia and Nepal.
